First Lesson After Christmas Break – Top 5 Activities for the Language Classroom

    December 31, 2018

Get the new year off to a fantastic and productive start with my TOP 5 ACTIVITIES FOR THE LANGUAGE CLASSROOM below, which are absolutely perfect to get students in the right frame of mind for learning from the first lesson back, after the well-deserved Christmas break. Despite loving the last couple of weeks of term in December, I seriously used to dread the first week back in January after a wonderful two-week break. Students (and teachers!) seem to be lethargic and it can often be really difficult to get everyone motivated to get back into the swing of learning. So, I’ve put together my TOP 5 ACTIVITIES FOR THE FIRST…

Jenga Activity for Spontaneous Speaking – Language Tip of the Week

    November 11, 2018

Jenga Activity for Spontaneous Speaking Language Classroom Teaching Tip of the Week This week’s language classroom teaching activity of the week is an add-on to my recent post, Low-Prep Spontanous Speaking Activities for the Language Classroom (go and check it out later if you haven’t seen it yet). Here, you will find a brilliant, fairly low-prep ‘Jenga’* activity for spontaneous speaking, perfect for your French, German, Spanish or English language teaching classroom. I bought some Jenga* sets from Tesco a few years ago for £7 each. I’ve managed to find this unbranded Jenga* Set on Amazon for £5.94 with free delivery for orders over £20. If you haven’t got any yet, I’d…

Spontaneous Speaking Activity – Tip of the Week – Edition 6

    October 19, 2018

Who loves speaking in another languages? Me! However, when it comes to speaking in a different language, finding enough opportunity in the classroom can be quite tricky. This week’s Teaching Tip of The Week is a fun, low-prep and low-cost spontaneous speaking activity. It can be adapted for all levels, languages (I’ve used it with French, German and English) and groups. It has been tried and tested, but I have added my own spin to it. This particular spontaneous speaking resource was created for French and German GCSE level groups but it can, very easily, be adapted for other groups. COLOURFUL SPONTANEOUS SPEAKING CHALLENGE Teaching Tip Of The Week – Edition…

Teaching Numbers – Fun Speaking Activity

    September 26, 2018

Finding enough speaking activities and free speaking practice, which are useful, is definitely my downfall when it comes to teaching. When I came across this speaking activity on teaching numbers with its game element, I was thrilled. Read about my take on the game below. I have been teaching numbers since 2009. In the past, I have done addition/subtraction and multiplication sums, as it adds a cross-curricular element. However, I tend to find that it takes longer to teach the numbers, because students are focusing on the maths involved. In the future, I will definitely utilise this activity for teaching numbers (small or large) for free speaking, in any language. The activity is…

No Prep Spontaneous Speaking Activity for Languages

    May 2, 2018

Who doesn’t love a great no-prep spontaneous speaking activity in the MFL classroom? Last week, I spent a lesson working in the role of Foreign Language Assistant (FLA) with four year 10 German students. Their class teacher wanted them to practise forming sentences verbally; mainly to develop spontaneous speaking and tense practice, which I thought was a brilliant idea. The teacher quickly explained the activity to me and the boys. Below, I will give you her no prep spontaneous speaking game instructions and resources. However, I have also added my own reflections, additions and a free downloadable 15 minute starter activity to do a quick bit of practice on tenses.…

Je me présente!

Hi! I’m Sabina, an insanely passionate ESOL and MFL teacher with 10 years teaching experience in private, online, secondary and further education settings. At the moment, I am teaching English to adults in a college environment, as well as French and German at secondary level.

To no extent am I ‘The Ideal Teacher’ since I am definitely a ‘work in progress’, when it comes to teaching . However, I stand by the philosophy of teach・reflect・discuss・learn・create・repeat in order to strive towards becoming a better teacher.

This is a space to share my own French and German KS3, GCSE and A Level resources (including links to handouts, worksheets and PowerPoints), as well as my English language teaching resources.  I will also add reflections, events during the school/college day, things that make me smile and knowledge that I have acquired from others to help me meet my aim of becoming The Ideal Teacher…one day!
