GCSE German can be super simple for many students, but others find learning the language a challenge. I completely understand that. In fact, having studied four languages at GCSE level – German (A*), French (A), Spanish (A) and Latin (B), in various groups myself, I know the feeling. I studied for my GCSEs in 2002-3, but opted to take all the languages that I could! In fact, I even went to Adult Education college one evening per week and got my Spanish GCSE in one year, whilst studying for my A Levels. Even though I am a lover of languages, I know that not everyone is and many struggle with them.
However, the good news is that there is a method to learning any language and it’s the same for GCSE. What makes learning the language a little bit easier, is that the exam boards provide guidance on what they are looking for from students to get the best marks. Knowing/implementing this knowledge is one of the keys to success at GCSE Level! Obviously, you still need to know vocabulary and grammar, as well as skills to help with speaking, listening, reading, writing and translation, but these can be worked on with practice.

MY TEACHING METHOD
My teaching method at GCSE level and in general focuses on you and your needs. I have a lot of experience as a private GCSE German tutor and believe the following steps achieve the best results.
1. We’ll establish what you feel are your issues
2. I’ll spend a few minutes doing some activities on speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar to check your current level.
3. I’ll suggest areas of improvement and we’ll begin working on those, combined with the issues you have highlighted.
4. We can decide on the frequency of lessons, depending upon availability and affordability and I can give homework if required between the lessons. This certainly accelerates progress.
Every student has different needs, but one of the key factors for most German language learners is confidence. Building confidence is often really important. Knowing that you can speak, or that you can understand a language and feeling confident about it makes a huge difference at GCSE level.

SUCCESS STORIES & REVIEWS
This week, a student who sat his iGCSE in May told me that he had got a grade 9 (the highest grade you can get) in his GCSE German exam results. When I started working with him last November, he was working at a grade 6/7. I was so pleased for him, because he took on my advice and worked hard during the lessons and with the homework that I gave him.
This is the review his mother left for me in May, even before he sat his exams!
“Put simply, Sabina is just amazing. She is well prepared before every lesson and she ensures that everything learnt in a lesson is recapped at the end. She is very thorough and always notes down topics and grammar sections that my son wants to go over in the future. She assists him with his vocabulary learning and she always encourages him to extend this further. Sabina has helped my son with all aspects of his German IGCSE course and recently she has helped him perform highly in his speaking exam by tailoring her teaching to his needs. She is also very flexible with her lessons and always finds a way to fit in my son’s lessons, especially as he approached the speaking exam, she set aside many lessons just for him! My son has only been having lessons with Sabina for a short amount of time, despite this his confidence has grown, his vocabulary recall has improved and his use and variety of complex structures in his writing has developed. Sabina has taken my son from an A/B (6/7) standard to a high A* (8/9) level. Overall, Sabina is great German teacher and I highly recommend her!”
Another mother’s review of weekly GCSE German lessons with her daughter.
“Sabina has been a great help with Georgia whilst studying for her GCSE in German. She has helped with both vocabulary and speaking, and her confidence has gone from strength to strength since starting with Sabina. Georgia is hoping to continue with A-level, and Sabina’s teaching method has assisted Georgia with this decision. Sabina is punctual and an excellent teacher and I would strongly recommend her.”
If you need a private GCSE German tutor, then you’re in the right place. Not only have I helped numerous students get the highest grades, I have also aided students who were struggling with German working at D grade level, the January before sitting their final examinations, achieve a B. I was also ecstatic for this student as his confidence improved dramatically.
